Trivandrum Zoo is one of the oldest zoos in India. Likewise, the museum and botanical garden are one of the oldest in the country. Swathi Thirunal Rama Varma (1816-1846) was the ruler of Travancore from 1830 to 1846 and the founder of the Trivandrum Museum and Zoo visionaries. He kept many animals, including elephants, on his horse farm. He established a relationship with tigers, panthers, cheetahs, deers, bears and lionesses in his castle in Thiruvananthapuram. However, he left this to his brother Uthram Thirunal Marthanda Varma and subsequently to British General Cullen, who founded the Napier Museum and Zoo in Trivandrum. The commission was established in 1855 with the Maharaja of Travancore as president, General Karen as president, Elaya Raja as vice-president and Mr. Travancore as president. Allen Brown serves as the museum's board secretary and director. By design, the museum opened to the public in September 1857. However, as human development has led to the loss of forests and wildlife, the purpose of Zoos has changed from entertainment to conservation. A renovation project began in 1995 to gradually replace the old fence with a wider fence. The Government of Kerala is carrying out this restoration with financial assistance and support from the Central Zoo Authority. Besides birds, the zoo also has many butterflies, dragonflies, birds, ants, insects, spiders, etc. There are also species.
